Business Management Techniques
I
recently implemented a new management technique, after reading
a book that deals with managing people in a minute. The book
has a psychological; "don't hold people accountable"
tone, so I was initially turned off. However, since it was a
gift from my good friend Geoff MacKay, I decided to read it
with an open mind.
The book discusses things such as setting appropriate objectives
for your people and following through. Additionally, the concept
of implementing a management style that combines the best parts
of autocratic and democratic methods to allow an environment
in which your people feel good about helping the organization
to succeed was very appealing to me. Scheduling efficient meetings
is also discussed in a very concise, easy to understand manner.
The concepts I have tried hardest to implement, however, are
those of appropriate, efficient praisings and reprimands. The
book discusses the importance of discovering, immediately, what
your staff is doing well. Also, as important is to find areas
of weakness, after goals have been precisely defined. These
weaknesses are to be, according to the book, exactly stated
and corrected, without carrying over negative sentiment.
