John MacKay - Safe Riding
John
MacKay
My good friend (and brother), Geoff MacKay, is what we call a "fast"
rider. He spends lots of time on the track, so has considerable experience
in controlling a bike at speed. Let me clarify what I mean by fast. Anyone
can ride a sportbike fast, but when you call someone fast, you generally
mean control. Fast means that he can out ride just about anyone he meets,
without being out of control.
This is very different from the people who buy a bike and think they're
instantly fast. We call these people squids. These are the people you
don't want to ride with because they ride beyond their abilities. Stupid
acts like swaying into the opposing lane of traffic are dangerous, and
only cause the group they ride with to think of when they will have to
go get the pick up truck to salvage a wrecked bike.
